New Media HQ

Amsterdam

New Media HQ is a twin-tower office development in Amsterdam, designed for flexibility and future reuse within a transforming industrial district. The project responds to the area’s evolving identity, combining a dynamic architectural form with a long-term, adaptable approach to workspace design.

The two volumes are conceived as subtly pivoting towers, their orientation carefully calibrated to optimise daylight, frame views, and establish a nuanced dialogue with the surrounding urban fabric. This shifting geometry creates a layered reading of the buildings in elevation, reinforcing their presence within a district defined by both industrial heritage and ongoing redevelopment. At the same time, the design embeds adaptability at its core, with efficient floor plates and a rational structural system that support evolving uses over time, ensuring the buildings remain relevant within a changing urban context.

  • New Media HQ – Twin Towers in a Transforming Urban Landscape

New Media HQ is a forward-looking office development in South-East Amsterdam, positioned within a neighbourhood undergoing significant urban transformation. The project responds to a context shaped by its industrial heritage—most notably the former Cinetone Studios—while engaging with ongoing redevelopment initiatives such as the Bajes Kwartier.

The design is conceived as a pair of twin towers, articulated as subtly pivoting volumes that establish a dynamic presence within the evolving skyline. This rotation is both formal and performative: it enhances daylight access, reduces overlooking, and creates a nuanced relationship with the surrounding urban fabric. The resulting composition introduces a layered reading of the towers, reflecting the district’s transition from industrial past to a more diverse, mixed-use future.

Central to the project is the principle of adaptability. The buildings are designed with carefully proportioned floor plates that support both contemporary office use and potential future residential conversion. Controlled depths ensure optimal daylight penetration, while a rational structural grid and flexible façade system allow for long-term reconfiguration without major structural intervention.

At ground level, the positioning of the towers contributes to a more open and porous urban environment. View corridors are preserved and enhanced, while the spatial arrangement supports improved connectivity between the site and its surroundings. This approach fosters a more human-scaled public realm within a district defined by large-scale transformation.

New Media HQ embodies a resilient architectural strategy—one that anticipates change and embeds flexibility into its design. It stands as a marker of Amsterdam’s evolving urban landscape, where heritage, innovation, and future adaptability converge.
